Every year for Thanksgiving we go out of town to my grandparents' house. We're only gone Thursday and Friday, but it's still too long to leave our animals to their own resources (which are quite limited.) This year, being that I've brought a new furry friend to our home, it is my responsibility to find care for him over this two day stint out of town.
My next door neighbor is somewhere around the age of 9, and she is frequently coming over and petting my cat and playing with him so naturally I thought she would be the most logical choice in someone to provide my cat with food for two days. I approached her outside this morning on my way to work (now that I think of it, I'm not exactly sure why she wasn't at school... hmm, must investigate)and the conversation went something like this:
Me: "Hey, Cara. Is your family going out of town for Thanksgiving?"
Her: "No."
Me: "Do you think that you could feed Marcus on Thurs. and Fri. since we're going to
be out of town? All you have to do is just pour some food in his bowl and refill
the water."
Her, after dramatically whipping out her cell phone: "Nah. I got plans with my
friends. See ya."
After I got over the initial shock of her having to consult her cell phone for her social calendar, I became slightly annoyed at the blatant disdain dripping from her voice as I asked her to do a simple task. I never even got around to it, but I was going to offer her monetary compensation. She can bet that's out, and she shouldn't be too surprised if the next time she wanders over to my yard, Marcus isn't as friendly as he used to be...
