October is absolutely my favorite month, for many reasons. Primarily, October is the first month that the South actually starts to feel the fall in the air. I love the cool weather (but not cold) and the feeling of the seasons changing. October is also the peak of college football and NFL (both actually span from Sept - Jan, but I consider October the best month of football). October also houses Fall Break, Halloween, Octoberfest, the list goes on.
But, perhaps the most meaningful reason I love October is that it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Almost everywhere you go there is an infiltration of pink and pink ribbons in honor of this very important month. I love that the NFL has taken on breast cancer awareness as their main cause - going so far as to wear pink shoes, pink gloves and many other pink accessories - because it shows that even a notoriously masculine arena can embrace awareness for a disease that undoubtedly touches almost everyone.
I don't have to point out that I talk about breast cancer awareness ALL the time, but I don't think it is a point that can be overdone. In the past year alone, I've already logged over 75 miles in breast cancer awareness events, and I will continue to do more. No woman should ever have to endure a breast cancer diagnosis, and if she does, she should have no doubt that she will be 100% cured.
